Fall Arrest Anchors
This fact sheet provides advice on fall arrest anchors and was updated August 2019.
It includes information about AS 1891.4: 2009 Industrial fall-arrest systems and devices Part 4: Selection, use and maintenance and AS/NZS 5532:2013 Manufacturing requirements for single point anchor devices used for harness-based work at height under the Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation.
Background:
SafeWork NSW previously released a document on their website relating to AS/NZS 5532, which has in many cases been misconstrued as not recognising the standard AS/NZS 5532. This SafeWork NSW document has led to some confusion in the height safety industry.
The document stated that the AS/NZS 5532 Standard was under review, which clearly was not the case having been released in the year 2013. WAHA did provided a case for review to the Standards committee, however this review was rejected on the basis that the time to complete the review was beyond the allowable time limit and at this time there is no intention to review this standard until Standards committee SF015 has completed the work on the present standards being reviewed.
WAHA requested SafeWork NSW review their position on AS/NZS 5532 Standard which is a current and relevant standard which forms part of the body of knowledge and is indeed now used by the majority of manufacturers in industry to design and test anchors.
On reflection following the WAHA request for change to Safe Work NSW they now reference to both AS/NZS 1891.4 and AS/NZS 5532 Standards.
The document referencing the AS/NZS 5532 may be found on the SafeWork NSW website.
